A new freeware developer has published their first airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and received a very positive reception.
EuroScene, a self-described project dedicated to bringing high-quality freeware renditions of European airports to the simulator, has released Palma De Mallorca (LEPA) on flightsim.to as freeware. At the time of writing it is sporting an average review score of 4.97/5 across 30 reviews.
The scenery includes custom 3D models for all of the airport’s terminals, some hangars, the tower and VOR/ILS antennas, as well as custom ground markings, satellite imagery cover-up, taxiway lighting and parking spots. All terminals also have modelled interiors, and the military apron is covered with some helicopter parking spots. Surrounding areas on the landside have also been covered in some detail to give a more realistic sensation of landing on the Balearic island.
Speaking to FSElite following the release of LEPA, Glanzgurke (half of the due behind EuroScene) said: “I have been an aviation enthusiast since I was a little kid and have been a passionate flight simmer for quite a while too. The main reason for the start of this project was because of my holiday in Palma and the lack of a good (and freeware) scenery to recreate the flights.“
“Out of boredom I started messing around with Blender and created the first 3d models. I didn´t know anything about MSFS development at that point and it was more a bit of playing around than actually planning to create this scenery.“
“I kind of made my way through the scenery development and after a few months was soon at the point where I wanted to release a first version, though not without a GSX profile. This is where Vee2 comes in. I´m very happy with how the first versions came out and am incredibly grateful for all the positive feedback and constructive criticism I´ve received from the community!“
The other half of EuroScene is Vee2, who created the GSX profile for the scenery which can be downloaded here. He said: “I initially heard of the project from a message sent by Glanzgurke (the developer of the airport) asking if anyone would be willing to help out with the GSX Profile for his new freeware Palma scenery – one thing leads to another and we’ve formed a development group with plans to develop freeware sceneries for various European airports. While I didn’t personally contribute to Palma’s modelling or texturing (I handled the GSX profile and beta testing), I will certainly be joining in with development in our future projects.
“It’s safe to say, we’re both amazed by the sheer amount of positive reviews and support we’ve received over the last few days, and we’re thrilled that you all enjoy this wonderful rendition of Palma de Mallorca!”
