Echo 19 Audio has announced its next aircraft sound pack, this time turning its attention to the Black Square TBM 850 for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The new package replaces the aircraft’s audio with recordings captured from two real-world TBM 850s. Echo 19 says it worked alongside real TBM pilots and flight simulation enthusiasts during production, with the aim of rebuilding virtually everything that makes a sound aboard the aircraft.
The pack includes newly recorded engine audio covering everything from the cold and dark startup sequence through to full-power operation for the TBM’s PT6 engine. The propeller has also received a significant overhaul, including 360-degree exterior audio, ambisonic 3D sound within the cockpit, along with new flyby and distant sounds.
It’s not just the big noises that have been replaced. Echo 19 has recorded the aircraft’s switches, buttons, levers, doors and dials, alongside system sounds including the gyros, inertial separator, bleed-air heating, fuel pumps, flap motor and automatic fuel selector.
The package also uses Echo 19’s EchoFX framework, allowing sounds to react dynamically to aircraft state, flight physics, G-forces and environmental conditions. There’s also a built-in headphone simulation which reduces ambient noise to replicate the experience of wearing a headset.
Echo 19 says more than eight microphones and recording perspectives were used during the process, with the original material captured at 192kHz. As an added extra, the pack will also include two liveries for the Black Square TBM 850, created by Rhys Brown.
