Eagle Dynamics has announced the release of their new East Afghanistan Map for DCS World, expanding their coverage of the main Afghanistan Map. The new region covers 650,097 km² of terrain and includes ten new airfields to use across the Hindu Kush mountains and river valleys.
The map release comes alongside DCS World Update 2.9.13.6818, a substantial update bringing numerous fixes and improvements. You can read the full changelog here.
The region holds major historical significance, having seen extensive military operations over 40 years. From Soviet operations in the 1980s through to more recent conflicts, the area has hosted countless sorties from a wide range of aircraft, many of which are available to fly in DCS World.
According to Eagle Dynamics, the map includes ten highly detailed airfields, those being Bagram, Kabul International, Jalalabad, Gardez, Khost, Sharna and Bamyan, as well as three dedicated heliports at Urgoon, Ghanzi and Khost for rotor wing enjoyers. Around these bases, detailed agricultural areas and urban zones have been recreated, with Kabul featuring key landmarks including hospitals, historical sites and monuments.

The new map builds on the work done for the initial Afghanistan Map release. Eagle Dynamics has added detailed ground textures, improved terrain meshes and normal maps throughout the region, from small rocks and vegetation to major geographical landmarks. The release trailer shows before and after comparison shots showing these improvements between the purchased and non-purchased East Afghanistan region.

Players need only purchase one region to join multiplayer and single player sessions across the entire Afghanistan map, with non-purchased areas displayed at a lower level of detail. Like most DCS modules, both the Afghanistan Map and individual regions can be tested through DCS World’s free two-week trial system before buying.
The East Afghanistan Map is available now through the official DCS World e-Shop for $29.99.
Players can also opt for the full Afghanistan Map at $55.99, which includes both the East and Southwest regions, plus access to the full North Afghanistan Map once it releases. Eagle Dynamics hasn’t yet announced a release date for the northern region.
