Eagle Dynamics has released the highly anticipated DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum into early access. The iconic Cold War fighter arrives as part of a major update to DCS World, version 2.9.20.15010, which also introduces a complete overhaul of the R-27 missile family and a host of other platform enhancements.
The new MiG-29A Fulcrum is a full-fidelity simulation of the Soviet-era fighter, in contrast to the low-fidelity version available in the Flaming Cliffs 3 package. Eagle Dynamics has also released the DCS: NS430 Navigation System for the MiG-29A as a separate product, replicating the real world Garmin GNS430 in DCS. Tutorial videos for the new module have been made available by Matt Wagner on YouTube.
As an an early access release, Eagle Dynamics has provided a list of known issues, such as autopilot-induced oscillations, and a list of 3D model improvements currently in progress.
A notable change in the update to DCS World is the introduction of an advanced model for the R-27 missile family. According to the changelog, these weapons now use a new CFD-based flight model, an authentic control system, and new guidance filters. The semi-active RF seeker now models a ‘multitarget’ tracking feature, where signals from multiple targets can interfere, which may affect missile guidance against target groups or chaff.
The update includes changes for several other DCS World modules. The Sinai and South Atlantic modules have now left their Early Access periods. Additionally, Heatblur Simulations’ AJS-37 Viggen has received an electrical system overhaul, new warnings, and other updates. Several new airfields have also been added to the Iraq map. The patch also contains fixes for modules including the F-16C Viper, F/A-18C Hornet, and for general AI aircraft behaviour.
