This week’s Digital Combat Simulator Newsletter from Eagle Dynamics brings updates on several highly anticipated features and content, including progress on Data Transfer Cartridges, the Cold War Germany Map by Ugra-Media, and a new campaign by Reflected Simulations.
Data Cartridge System
The upcoming DCS update will introduce the initial version of the Data Transfer Cartridge (DTC) for the F-16C Viper and F/A-18C Hornet modules. This initial version will allow players to create and load DTC settings for radio communications and countermeasures within the Mission Editor. Eagle Dynamics states that they plan to add further DTC functionality in future updates, such as navigation data and weapons configurations, with eventual implementation for other aircraft like the A-10C II Tank Killer and AH-64D Apache modules.

Cold War Germany Map Update
The developers of the DCS: Cold War Germany Map, Ugra-Media, have provided an update on its development. The team reports that they have been refining the map based on community feedback, with tweaks to the map border and the addition of new locations such as cities and border checkpoints. The development includes road and rail networks, historically accurate airfields, and optimised rendering.
The map is scheduled for release this April, according to Ugra-Media, and preview videos are being shared on their YouTube channel. Currently, Ugra-Media is focused on final testing and preparations for release, with ongoing refinements to colour palettes and the addition of new points of interest. The developers emphasised their commitment to historical accuracy, including the recreation of airfields with input from individuals who served at those airbases.

F-4E Red Flag 82-1 Campaign
A new campaign, the F-4E Red Flag 82-1 Campaign by Reflected Simulations, is also upcoming. Reflected Simulations say that this campaign will simulate the early Red Flag exercises at Nellis Air Force Base, flying the F-4E Phantom II by Heatblur. It will include historically accurate procedures, custom voice-overs, and randomised missions.
