DCS World Update Delivers Core Module Upgrades Alongside Key Developer Announcements

Eagle Dynamics

Eagle Dynamics has recently pushed an update to DCS World, introducing new capabilities to its F/A-18C Hornet and F-16C Viper modules.

For the F/A-18C Hornet, a Terrain Avoidance radar mode has been implemented. This new mode provides pilots with a visual representation of terrain ahead, aiming to assist in avoiding controlled flight into terrain during low-level flight. Matt Wagner of Eagle Dynamics provided an overview of this new radar mode. Looking ahead, Eagle Dynamics plans to add Multi-Sensor Integration in the August DCS update, which will allow AWACS surveillance track files to be designated as targets without the radar transmitting.

The F-16C Viper now features the AN/AAQ-33 Advanced Targeting Pod. This new pod offers capabilities such as Multi-Target Track, TV and infrared camera picture-in-picture, extended range image processing, and an infrared pointer. Its implementation includes advanced functionality like Maverick handoff and Laser Spot Track. Matt Wagner delved into the ATP’s features in a two-part video series: Part one covered basic set-up, while part two demonstrated more advanced capabilities.

Heatblur Simulations

Heatblur Simulations had previously stated on their official Discord server that the recent July DCS update would not include any content from their modules. The developer cited the complexity of their ongoing summer roadmap as the reason for this. The announcement outlines further updates planned for their Saab 37 Viggen module, the early-“A” F-14 Tomcat variant, AI-controlled A-6E Intruders, and new systems for the F-4E Phantom II module.

Future F-4E updates are set to include Jester AI Pave Spike functionality, which will allow the virtual backseater to operate the targeting pod when a human Weapons Systems Officer is not present. Also planned are the APX-81A Combat Tree interrogator, an electronic flight bag, and persistent aircraft mechanics, including wear-and-tear modelling. Development continues on the F-14BU module for DCS and an F-4E Phantom II for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Meanwhile, the official F-4E manual repository on GitHub has been updated with detailed descriptions of these previewed systems. The Identification Systems section now covers the APX-81A Combat Tree interrogator, which is capable of spoofing and detecting period-correct IFF transponders. The air-to-ground stores pages outline TV-guided bombs such as the AGM-62 Walleye and GBU-8 HOBOS, complete with warm-up timers and delivery procedures. The AGM-65 Maverick entry describes new gyro spin-up and spin-down logic, a separate ARM light circuit, and failure effects should the seeker be uncaged before reaching operating speed.

Heatblur’s Zabuzard has provided pre-release footage showcasing the new Combat Tree system in effect, alongside a demonstration of an AGM-65 Maverick with a malfunctioning sensor due to an incomplete gyro spin-up.

Eagle Dynamics & RAZBAM

In a recent weekly newsletter, Eagle Dynamics provided a statement in response to comments and questions from RAZBAM, its proxies, and/or external developers. This comes after Ron Zambrano, RAZBAM’s owner, had previously posted on the official RAZBAM Twitter stating that “there just isn’t a path open for us to return our products to DCS”.

Eagle Dynamics confirmed that a settlement agreement was signed with RAZBAM at the end of 2024 to conclude existing disputes. This agreement includes a strict confidentiality requirement, preventing Eagle Dynamics from disclosing further information.

However, Eagle Dynamics stated that RAZBAM instructed them to cease selling modules developed by RAZBAM and its independent developers. They also confirmed that while these modules continue to function ‘as is’, Eagle Dynamics has not received any access to source codes or cooperation from RAZBAM and its external developers. Despite this, Eagle Dynamics has stated they intend to do their best to ensure these modules continue to function in DCS World version 2.9.X.
