Developer DC Designs has released their F/A-18C Hornet as a freeware product for MSFS. The team partnered with CJ Simulations to convert their product initially designed for FSX Acceleration to MSFS.
The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine fighter and attack aircraft and was the first tactical aircraft designed to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The aircraft was initially designed and produced by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, with Boeing taking over the program after the Boeing and McDonnell Douglas merger. The F/A18-Hornet entered military service in January 1983; however, Boeing ended the program’s production in 2000 to focus on the Super Hornet program. The Blue Angels most notably used the aircraft until 2020.
While DC Designs’ F/A-18C Hornet is a conversion from FSX, the team has added custom coding for certain systems and implemented a brand new flight model to match the actual characteristics of the F/A-18C better. In addition, MSFS effects, such as selectable fuel tanks and weapons load-out, have been added. Pilots can even mimic the Blue Angels’ smoke effect by using the wing light command. Finally, PBR texturing has been added for enhanced detail, and DC Designs confirmed that all the FSX liveries can be easily converted to MSFS.
