CSS 737-500 Gets a Big Update

Commercial Simulation Systems (CSS) has released version 1.6.41 of their Boeing 737-500 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024.

This new update brings full native compatibility with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and provides a solid foundation for the upcoming CSS 737-300 and 737-400 releases. Following an extended Experimental MSFS24 phase, the team has completed the transition to the new project structure while addressing a wide range of issues encountered along the way. As a result, the aircraft now benefits from MSFS24’s improved visuals and performance, delivering a noticeably smoother experience.

Alongside MSFS24 support, the update introduces several new features, including livery-specific engine ratings and winglet configurations, complete with a dedicated winglet flight model. This effectively expands the product into three distinct engine variants: 18.5K, 20K, and 20K with Winglets, each featuring its own performance profiles and calculations.

Audio has also received attention, with the addition of new stabiliser trim and ground roll sounds, as well as refinements to existing audio assets. These changes mark the first step toward a more comprehensive sound overhaul planned for a future update.

The EFB has been enhanced with multiple quality-of-life improvements, including automatic detection of the correct aircraft model and registration within the performance calculator. New panel states have also been added, allowing users to start directly in ‘Ready for Start’ or ‘Ready for Taxi’ configurations.

On the systems side, CSS has introduced VOR/LOC VOR, Go-Around modes, VNAV flap target speeds, and several other system enhancements. The RMI is now fully functional, rounding out several long-awaited avionics improvements.

Finally, the update includes an extensive list of bug fixes and system refinements. Major components such as the FMC, LNAV, VNAV, and autopilot have undergone substantial rework, alongside improvements to the flight model and system logic. Notable changes include revised parking brake behaviour to better reflect real-world operation and a near-complete rewrite of the speedbrake and ground spoiler logic.

A new launcher has also been added, providing a new, modern and sleeker experience. It is recommended to do a full reinstall of the new update to avoid any issues.
