Updated: Cross Africa 2024 VATSIM Event Announced

VATSIM has announced a new edition of the “Cross Africa” event on social media. This event is scheduled to take place on August 3rd, 2024. The event is organized in cooperation with various VATSIM divisions such as VATSSA, Maghreb vACC, Egypt vACC and North East Africa vACC. During the event, ATC will staff the many control sectors across this vast continent.

The last event took place in January of this year and was mainly focussed on a northbound direction across the continent. The upcoming event promises to again be a southbound edition, enabling many opportunities for long haul operations across various landscapes and climates.

There are a number of route options that may be chosen freely. Some options include routings between Algiers and Johannesburg and Hurghada to Cape Town. To further increase your (and the controllers) workload you may elect to perform a “stopover” in Lagos (DNMM) or Nairobi (KHJK) airport.

Additionally for controllers there is an opportunity to volunteer, join the roster and provide support during the event by joining a hitsquad team.
