Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (LPMA), aka Madeira Airport, is one of the most challenging airports in the world. Its unique design (half the runway is on stilts out over the ocean), variable weather and challenging approach, means that any pilot will need to carefully plan their arrival. You can now experience this with a new release from AmSim who has made the famous airport in Funchal now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
As mentioned, with the runway extended out over the Atlantic ocean, the airport is able to handle almost all types of aircraft, including up to the Boeing 747. However, it’s more common to see narrow-body aircraft from across Europe touchdown at Madeira. The airport itself has a number of parking stands and facilities and all of this has helped it grow to see over 500,000 passengers per year.
AmSim has taken to the airport and recreated a realistic version in the simulator. Here you will find high-resolution ground textures, custom ground markings, and also numerous buildings in the surrounding area. The team has made sure that the single main terminal building is highly detailed with the use of PBR materials, 3D modelling and more all designed to look like its real-life counterpart. There are also numerous ground vehicles scattered around along with other objects to help breathe life into the island airport.
