Aircraft developer Creator of Worlds, better known as COWS, has pushed an update for their DA40 and DA42 series of aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 and 2024. With the latest update, both aircraft have received substantial improvements aimed at increasing realism and flight handling in the sim. Alongside the updates, COWS has also made their DA40-NG available for free to current customers.
DA40 Series Updates
For COWS’ DA40 series, the version 1.1.0 update brings a major focus on making the aircraft’s systems more realistic and fixing outstanding bugs. Improvements include a fully custom electrical system, simulating buses, circuit breakers, and batteries that can now be discharged by components like the cabin light being left on. The G1000 avionics suite also received several enhancements, such as a wide flight plan view MFD page, a Priming Assist feature, improved fuel calculations, and a “timer expired” voice alert, among others. Several bug fixes round out the update. COWS states that the process of refining the DA40 series took over 5 months.

DA40-NG Released
Announced recently, the “next generation” DA40-NG is now available as a free update for owners of COWS’ DA40 series. The DA40-NG’s key feature is the turbocharged Austro Engine AE300, a jet fuel-powered piston engine that offers lower fuel consumption and a reduction in pilot workload with a single-lever FADEC control system.

DA42 Updates
The DA42 update, version 1.2.2, brings a host of realism-focused, “quality-of-life” improvements and fixes to the aircraft. Similar to the DA40 series, the DA42 sees updates to its electrical system, including the improved simulation of components like electrical busses, diodes, circuit breakers, and batteries. The G1000 avionics suite benefits from several updates, including better fuel calculations, new airspeed markers for the all-important Vyse and Vmc speeds, and more. Fight model-wise, the DA42’s FADEC system and turbo response, as well as a new cooling airflow simulation, have all been improved.

Both aircraft benefit from tweaks to the lighting, visuals, sounds, state-saving, failures, and standby instruments. Additionally, COWS states that separate MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 installers are now available for both aircraft. Owners can update their aircraft through Orbx Central (updates should be available on the MSFS Marketplace soon).
If you don’t yet own the COWS DA42 or DA40 series for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, you can pick up these aircraft from Orbx for $46.25 AUD and $40.25 AUD, respectively.
