MSFS and X-Plane developer Cowan Simulation published teasers of a new helicopter project in progress via a Facebook. This comes approximately eight months after releasing their rendition of the R66.
In the post, the developer released several early renders of a cockpit, main landing gear bay, and rotor assemblies for a helicopter. No release timeline was provided, but the developer did mention “this is going to be a game-changer. Stay tuned!“
Early speculation from members of the community points to these renders being of a Sikorsky S-76 Helicopter.
First introduced in 1976, The S-76 is a medium-size commercial utility helicopter. Despite being Sikorsky’s first foray into making a civilian helicopter, over 875 units have been delivered worldwide. The Sikorsky name still lives on today, albeit as a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. According to Lockheed’s website, over 65% of total S-76 flight hours were comprised of offshore oil and gas missions while Air Ambulance missions represented just over 10% of total flight hours.
