As part of Microsoft’s announcement earlier today, a full list of detailed airports was shared telling us exactly which aircraft will be released with Microsoft Flight Simulator when it releases this summer.
You will be able to travel to and from thousands upon thousands of airports around the world, but a handful of airports have been handcrafted down to the finest details within the simulator. Down below is the full list of all 40 confirmed detailed airports to release on launch day, including which edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator you will be able to find them in. As a reminder, over 37,000 airports are part of the simulator, just these 40 will be handcrafted to a high level of detail.

Asia
Haneda Airport // Japan (RJTT)

One of the busiest airports in the country serving over 87 million passengers per year, Haneda Airport is home to numerous airlines flying in and out Tokyo. With 4 main runways, a huge amount of terminal space and great views as you head in on approach, this is an international airport worth visiting.
Paro International Airport // Bhutan (VQPR)

Less than 25 pilots are licensed to land at Paro International Airport, but you have the chance to do so in the virtual skies of Microsoft Flight Simulator. The airport is nestled away between deep valleys, meaning weather, terrain and sharp turns make this one of the most challenging airports in the world to land at.
Tenzing-Hillary Airport // Nepal (VNLK)

Asia has no shortage of challenging airports with Lukla Tenzing-Hillary Airport, better known as Lukla Airport, sat right on the edge of a mountain. An uphill runway on landing is the only way you can slow down quick enough to make it safely. Taking off means pointing your nose down and gaining enough speed before reaching the end of the short runway.

Cairo International Airport // Egypt (HECA)

Cape Town International Airport // South Africa (FACT)

One of the largest international airports in South Africa will be included with Microsoft Flight Simulator. Nearly 11 million passengers per year, visitors from all corners of the world including the UK, the Middle East and many parts of Europe and even the United States.
Entebbe International Airport // Uganda (HUEN)

Serving as the primary airport for Uganda, Entebbe International Airport sits on the shores of Lake Victoria providing pilots a little extra excitement during approach and take off.
Europe
Adoifo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport // Spain (LEMD)

Over 61 million passengers passed through Madrid to the hundreds of destinations served by the airport from its range of airlines. The number of aircraft movements and passengers make Madrid the 6th busiest in Europe, but Spain’s busiest.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol // Netherlands (EHAM)

Amsterdam is the third-busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume and the busiest in Europe in terms of aircraft movements. The airport is built as a single-terminal concept: one large terminal split into three large departure halls. Schiphol is the hub for KLM and its regional affiliate KLM Cityhopper as well as for Martinair, Transavia and TUI fly Netherlands. The airport also serves as a base for easyJet.
Courchevel Altiport // France (LFLJ)

The airfield at Courchevel has a very short runway of only 537 metres (1,762 ft) with a gradient of 18.6%. There is no go-around procedure for landings at Courchevel, due to the surrounding mountainous terrain meaning you have to be completely confident in your ability to land at this challenging airport.
Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport // Portugal (LPMA)

A few hundred miles off the coast of Portugal sits an island named Madeira and the main airport is named after one of football’s greatest players. However, with a portion of the runway on stilts over the ocean and typically gusty weather conditions, this is an airport for the pros.
Donegal Airport // Ireland (EIDL)

Donegal Airport sits in the North-west of Ireland with only a handful of flights each day to destinations such as Dublin and Glasgow. However, its scenery approach and the fact it’s sat on the coast give it a reason to fly to.

Serving as the main hub for Germany’s Lufthansa, Frankfurt serves one of the busiest cities in all of Europe. Frankfurt Airport serves more than 300 destinations in 5 continents, making it the airport with the most direct routes in the world.

Sat between country boarders, a giant rock and surrounded by military airspace, Gibraltar airport is an interesting airport with a rich history and exciting approach. Like others in Europe, real-world pilots need a license to land at the airport.
Heathrow Airport // United Kingdom (EGLL)

As one of the busiest airports in the world, Heathrow is a transport hub for many. As you approach the airport from the East, you will get to see the sights of London with obvious landmarks such as the London Eye and The Houses of Parliament. Heathrow is home to British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and many other global airlines.
Innsbruck Airport // Austria (LOWI)

A hugely popular ski resort airport, Innsbruck is known for its scenic and tough approach through the Alps. Diverse weather, difficult approaches and high terrain mean you have to be ultra prepared to experience this airport.

The main airport of France is also the hub for Air France, Air France Cargo and also FedEx. However, it’s also a focus city for airlines such as easyJet, Norwegian and Vueling, which helps to bring over 76 million passengers and nearly half a million aircraft movements each year.

Los Angeles International Airport, commonly referred to as LAX, is the primary international airport serving Los Angeles and its surrounding metropolitan area. LAX is the second busiest airport in the US and the third in the whole world. Nearly 700,000 aircraft operations took place in 2019.

The second busiest airport in California is San Francisco Airport. Used as a hub for United for its Asian routes, San Francisco is renowned for its glorious approaches right over the bays and busy Silicon Valley.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport // USA (KSEA)

Despite not having nearly as many routes or destinations as other airports in this list, Seattle-Tacoma is the 8th busiest airport in the US and covers an area of 3.9 square miles. This makes it a dense airport compared to others.

Sedona Airport is a small non-towered airport located 2 miles southwest of the central business district of Sedona, a city in Yavapai County, Arizona, What’s unique is that it sits atop a large mound and at a high altitude of nearly 5,000ft.

Better known as Saint Barthélemy Airport, Gustaf the third airport is a public-use airport located in the village of St. Jean on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy. You’ve likely seen this airport in top-lists for extreme airports thanks to it’s insanely steep approach path and short runway. Soaring over the hills to then drop down into the airport is incredibly tough and now you can practice all you like in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Juancho Yrausquin Airport // Dutch Saba (TNCS)

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport is an airport on the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba. Numerous charter airlines visit the island airport including Winair, SXM Airways and Windward Express. The airport is best known for having the shortest commercial runway in the world measuring at just 400m or 1,312ft long.
Sirena Aerodrome // Costa Rica (MRSN)

According to the History Channel, Toncontin International Airport is the second most extreme airport in the world thanks to its challenging approach. Sharp turns, quick descents and a range of surrounding terrain make this a tough airport to land at in Central America.

Deep inside tall canyons, Chagual Airport sits on the river banks of the Maranon River. The 1200m runway may sound a lot, but the interesting terrain surrounding the airport means weather can cause any pilot to face a real challenge.
Mariscal Sucre International Airport // Ecuador (SEQM)

Mariscal Sucre International Airport is the busiest airport in Ecuador and is about 11 miles east of Quito. The location was chosen in order to expand the capacity of the city’s airport. A high altitude and loads of mountainous terrain make this a favourite airport of mine personally to visit.
Rio de Janeiro-Antonio Carlos Airport // Brazil (SBGL)

As the fourth-busiest airport in Brazil, Galeão International Airport is the primary airport of Rio de Janeiro. The gateway to Brazil sees a large number of airlines, cargo operators and private charters pass through. With the vibrant city just a few miles away, this is a stunning airport to approach.

Home to one of the biggest airlines in the world, Dubai International Airport is one of the most modern and futuristic airports in the world. Being located in the Middle East has meant Emirates were able to take advantage of a lucrative hub and spoke model which has proven popular. So popular that Dubai International Airport is the largest airport in the world for international passenger traffic.

Bugalaga Airstrip // Indonesia (WX53)

Very little information is available on Bugalaga Airstrip, but this small Indonesian airport in Papua is great for bush fliers looking to land on a dirt strip in the middle of a tropical rainforest.
Queenstown Airport // New Zealand (NZQN)

Over in New Zealand, Queenstown Airport first started commercial operations in the 1950s. Even with 2 runways and a large terminal building, it only handles just over 2 million passengers each year. That said, Queenstown Airport is still the fourth-busiest in New Zealand.
Sydney Airport // Australia (YSSY)

Just 5 miles away from downtown, Sydney Airport handles over 42 million passengers each year making it the busiest airport in Australia. Qantas is the undisputed king of the airport, but Sydney also hosts other airlines such as Jetstar, Virgin Australia and numerous others. A great coastal airport to go and visit.
