Over the past week, we have received multiple reports from trusted members of the community that a new flight simulator add-on site has appeared on the web. FS-Addons.com is currently selling FSX add-ons via CD distribution. The reports indicates that the person behind the scam is selling freeware products for profit.
The website lists several packages for people to buy add-ons, all of which are broken down into various categories. There are add-ons for commercial airliners, military aircraft and even a bundle set. The usual price for these add-ons are listed at £9.99, with the bundle pack being a crazy £44.99. Included in these packs are various aircraft types. However, none of these aircraft have been developed by the seller, nor have they been uploaded by other developers for sale. Facebook user Indiafoxtecho has confirmed that they are selling their work (F-14 and F-35) without any permissions.
Taking the commercial jet package for example, it states, the user will receive over 20 aircraft from modern commercial jets. The image selection at first glace is already conspicuous, but reading more demonstrates how poorly the attempt is to defraud the community. Most of the add-ons listed have had their “about” section literally copied and pasted from the freeware site – some of which even list the original developer. Other examples include the Whizz-air A320 which clearly states that the model is from Project Airbus. Similar things can be found on other models in the same pack.
Other examples include the Air Force One 747 found on FlyAwaySimulation and the VC140-B by Mark Rooks.
My advice is: under no circumstances purchase anything from this store. You can download all of the aircraft for free via multiple outlets including Avsim, FlyAwaySimulation and ProjectAirbus.
Update: It appears the site has been removed since we wrote the article. We’ll publish it anyway to make the community aware in case they try it again. Here’s a Google Cache link if you’re curious.
