X-Plane scenery developer Boundless Simulations, known within the community for their detailed renditions of Birmingham (EGBB), Kerry (EIKY), and the Isle of Man (EGNS), has just taken to the forums again, providing followers with first screenshots of their upcoming release, being the channel island of Alderney (EGJA).
Alderney is an island which, together with its counterparts Jersey and Guernsey, forms part of the Channel Island group and is located about 10 miles from the Normandy coast. Alderney’s airport was built in 1935, thereby making it the first airport on any of the Channel Islands. The airport features 3 runways, only one of which is asphalted and features standardized approach procedures, including RNP and NDB approaches. The airport only offers scheduled services to 2 domestic destinations, including the neighboring island of Guernsey and the city of Southampton, located on the British mainland. These services are operated by Alderney’s hometown airline Aurigny Air Services onboard recently acquired RUAG Aviation DO-228 NG’s.
Whilst Boundless has provided screenshots of their development progress, the team has remained silent regarding feature set and has also refrained from providing the community with any indication regarding both pricing and expected release date. Looking at the screenshots, however, audience members can assume that the island will most likely be faithfully recreated through the use of both custom 3D model buildings as well as ortho imagery.
As a final remark, the developers have also indicated that community feedback and future propositions, shared in the form of a comment on their forum post, would be most welcome.
