Bluebird Simulations surprised the flight sim community this afternoon in Las Vegas by announcing a brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner for in their main stage slot at FSExpo.

In a short 2-minute video teasing the aircraft, we saw some of the exterior modelling work already completed on the airliner, including the GE9X engines, cockpit exterior, and tailplane.

The development studio also used their time in their main stage session to show off further details surrounding their upcoming Boeing 757 and 767 jets for MSFS. For more details on those products, check out our companion article here.

According to Shervin Ahooraei, CEO of Bluebird Simulations, development on the 787 started in November last year, and the project is being undertaken by a team separate from the 757 and 767 projects. This means that the delivery timeline for these other Boeing jets is unaffected by the 787’s development as development time isn’t being pooled between the three projects, and Shervin was keen to emphasise this to the crowd.

Given that the project has now been announced just a few months before the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, it is unclear if the aircraft will be coming exclusively to 2024 or released for both the 2020 and 2024 platforms, or indeed other sims like X-Plane 12.

Commenting after the presentation, Shervin said that the team has “a lot of resources on this plane” and was apprehensive about developing it in the first place, but that community requests have pushed the studio into deciding on this as their next project.

No more information was offered on the development status of the aircraft while the team were on stage, but our crew of reporters will be speaking to Shervin on the FSElite stage on Saturday where we will be asking more questions about this exciting new project. If you’re in Las Vegas for the show, be sure to visit the session!
