Black Square developer Nick Cyganski has shared a fresh development update, offering new insight into several upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator projects, including progress on the long-awaited Commander 114, Caravan Professional, and an entirely new aircraft yet to be revealed.
Leading the update post is the Commander 114, which Cyganski says is now approaching the finish line. The aircraft is largely complete, with sound work remaining one of the final major tasks before release. The Commander will feature multiple configuration options, including an aftermarket turbonormalising package, three-blade scimitar propeller, and optional electric air conditioning, continuing Black Square’s focus on highly detailed aircraft simulations.
Development also continues on the Caravan Professional series. The package represents a complete overhaul of the original Analogue Caravan, bringing it up to the same standard as the Baron Professional and Bonanza Professional with hundreds of hours of additional development. Alongside new exterior models and professionally recorded audio, the aircraft will include Black Square’s latest systems simulation, expanded avionics options, tablet interface, and numerous visual and operational improvements. Existing owners of the Analogue Caravan will be eligible for upgrade discounts when it releases.
Beyond those projects, Cyganski confirmed that work is continuing across several other aircraft in development. While he stopped short of revealing details, he teased that another previously unannounced aircraft is progressing behind the scenes and will be unveiled at a later date.
The update also touched on the ongoing challenge of supporting both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. Cyganski reiterated that native MSFS 2024 compatibility requires significant additional work, particularly around the simulator’s more demanding level-of-detail system, but confirmed that Black Square remains committed to delivering native versions of its aircraft where possible.
While no firm release dates were announced, the latest update paints a busy picture for Black Square, with multiple aircraft moving steadily towards release and at least one new project waiting in the wings. We’ll keep you posted.
