A new major update for BeyondATC is coming in January for the experimental branch of the software that will introduce a full custom LLM to the experience. For those who may be unaware, an LLM, a large language model, is similar to the likes of ChatGPT and Google Gemini, and is an advanced AI system trained on extensive text data to understand and generate human-like language.
At the time of the launch for BeyondATC, a custom LLM was not a good fit for the product. The reason for this was cost and also that the technology at the time would give nonsensical and bad commands to the pilot. The team opted to work on the core engine of BeyondATC to provide the framework we see today and then implement a layer of custom LLM to enhance the product.
The custom LLM sits locally inside of BeyondATC on the user’s machine, which mitigates the issue of cost and keeps everything tightly controlled to ensure that the AI does display any strange behaviours. The video above gives you a good amount of detail and a preview of how this works in an effective way.
BeyondATC says that the results are “truly something special”. You can chat with ATC, use keyboard controls and expect to hear traffic awareness, taxi instructions, and much more.
BeyondATC will release this update in January for those in the experimental branch. You can check out the latest news which included traffic injection.
