In a social media post, Aerosoft previewed some of the work being done to refine the 3D model of its A340-600 Professional for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Developed in collaboration with ToLiss, Aerosoft has been busy with several updates to the aircraft, including recently adding fully native support for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Updates have focused on everything from improving the quad-jet’s audio environment, EFB, aircraft systems depth, and flight dynamics, to a custom turbulence model and completely reworked taxi-cam. This upcoming update appears to focus exclusively on the aircraft’s 3D model, and based on the previews provided by Aerosoft, users can expect a much improved level of detail when the update releases.
No other details were provided about the work being done apart from the renderings, but based on the before/after comparison shots, we see a higher polygon count is one of the methods being utilized to refine aspects of the A340-600’s 3D model. Focus areas appear to include more accurate flap “canoe” fairings, the A340’s Ram Air Turbine (RAT), wing trailing edge internal detail, and general fuselage shape and detail refinement.
No information about the release timeframe for the update was revealed in the announcement, nor any indication about how the increased polygon count might affect performance. Though we do know the 3D model update will be offered to existing customers free of charge.
