Following hot on the heels of Aerosoft’s Antwerp scenery release, the developer has announced that Skopje International Airport (LWSK) will be the next scenery scheduled for a future release.
Skopje International Airport (LWSK) is the primary airport serving North Macedonia’s capital Skopje and also serves as the main port of entry to the country. The airport shares a rich history with the first commercial flights having begun in 1929 when then Yugoslav flag carrier Aeroput introduced a regular service between the city and then capital, Belgrade. In the following years, the route was repeatedly extended and eventually connected Skopje to Vienna and Thessaloniki via Zagreb and Belgrade. After the end of WWII, Aeroput was folded into a new flag carrier, JAT Yugoslav Airlines, which continued linking Skopje to several international destinations across Europe.
Interestingly, though originally named after Alexander the Great, this name was dropped in 2018 to improve relations with Greece and the airport was simply renamed Skopje International Airport. Following this, Aegean Airlines introduced direct flights linking Athens and Skopje, this being the first such service in an extended period.
Following the release of their Antwerp scenery, Aeorsoft, taking to their forums, has made it clear that Skopje International Airport (LWSK) is next on the list. Though the developer has not provided a detailed feature list, the scenery seems to feature an accurate and up-to-date ground layout, detailed 3D terminal models featuring interior modeling, as well as some clutter on the apron, giving the airport a slightly more lively feel. The developer has also shared some preview pictures allowing potential customers to decide for themselves whether the level of detail provided is up to expectations.
