Aeroplane Heaven has revealed that its next aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator will be the B-25J Mitchell, following on from the recent release of the Avro Lancaster.
The developer confirmed that the base “J” model will be included, along with the distinctive 8-gun nose “strafer” variant. No release window has been shared yet, but Aeroplane Heaven says more information will be coming soon.
The B-25 Mitchell is one of the most recognisable American aircraft of the Second World War. First taking flight in 1940, the twin-engine medium bomber gained fame during the Doolittle Raid in 1942 and went on to serve extensively in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. The later B-25J variant featured heavier nose armament, making it a formidable strafer as well as a capable bomber. Powered by two Wright R-2600 radial engines, the B-25J could reach a maximum speed of around 275 mph (443 km/h), had a range of approximately 1,350 miles (2,170 km), and carried up to 3,000 lbs of bombs.
