Scenery developer AeroDesigns, known for their X-Plane rendition of Portland International Jetport (KPWM), have announced that they are currently working on an MSFS rendition of the airport.
Located on the East Coast, Portland International Jetport (KPWM) is a domestic airport serving the city of Portland in the U.S. state of Maine. The airport is considered the busiest in Maine, with 1.87 million passengers having passed through its doors during the 2017 record-setting year.
On a historic sidenote, the airport was initially constructed in the late 1920s by a wealthy Portland resident doctor, Dr. Clifford “Kip” Strange, who needed a place to store his JN-4 “Jenny” Biplane, and the airport saw its first commercial service introduced in 1931 with Boston-Maine Airways, the predecessor to what would later on become Northeast Airlines. At the time, the airport was named Portland-Westbrook Municipal Airport, which is the origin of its current IATA and ICAO coding.
AeroDesigns has taken to the MSFS forums to announce the development of this iconic Eastern U.S. airport for MSFS. According to the post, rather than doing a simple port over of the original X-Plane version of the airport, the developer has taken the effort to completely rework the scenery with updated and improved ground textures being the first of many changes. Among numerous changes have also been updating the airport’s ground layout, with taxiways Alpha and Bravo being reworked and taxiway Hotel being added. Additionally, a completely reworked and retextured terminal building, taking full advantage of platform-specific SDK capabilities, has also been added.
Regarding the release date, the developer has let readers know that the scenery is supposed to hit the marketplace within the next couple of weeks, with the price aimed at being in line with other similarly detailed airports currently available. AeroDesigns has yet to decide whether the product will be made X-Box compatible. On the subject, the developer indicated that a decision will be made once the optimization stage of the development process has been concluded.
As always, we will endeavor to keep you updated regarding the development progress of AeroDesigns Portland International Jetport (KPWM) scenery for MSFS. In the meantime, feel free to check out the official forum post linked here.
