Aero Dynamics recently shared an update on their upcoming free DC-10-30 and KC-10, as well as the release of a new aircraft, the Northrop T-38 Talon, for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Aero Dynamics DC-10/KC-10
Aero Dynamics explained that both aircraft remain fully active and are still the studio’s primary long-term focus. At no point have the trijets been cancelled or deprioritised, and the DC-10 family is now progressing “faster and more consistently than at any point in our past.”
Aero Dynamics explains that they repeatedly found themselves completing complex systems only to discover more accurate methods later, triggering full rewrites that slowed momentum and risked exhausting the small team.
To break out of that cycle, Aero Dynamics made a pivotal decision earlier this year to pause parallel development across the DC-10/KC-10 systems and pivot to a smaller, fully scoped aircraft. The purpose wasn’t to switch priorities, but to develop, test, and ship the foundation needed to finish the trijets properly.
The team outlines a suite of major technical achievements now fully proven in production, including:
- Tight integration with MSFS 2024 systems and Navigraph navdata
- A scalable LVAR and shared-memory architecture
- Clean, maintainable WASM modules built to airliner-level complexity
- Physically accurate instrumentation and gyro modelling
- A complete long-term development pipeline designed for multi-year projects
- Strong tools for managing multiple variants
- Foundations for future advanced airliner features
All of these innovations are currently being merged directly into the DC-10 and KC-10 codebase.
Moving Forward
Moving forward, the DC-10-30 and KC-10 will now be released exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Aero Dynamics says the split between MSFS 2020 and 2024 would dramatically slow their tiny team and compromise the depth of simulation they’re targeting. The architectural improvements in MSFS 2024, especially sim attachments, better memory handling, and WASM performance, are described as essential for delivering a true study-level three-crew airliner.
Focusing on one modern platform, the team states, is “the only realistic way we can finish and support the aircraft properly.”
Aero Dynamics T-38 Professional
The aircraft that enabled this renewed momentum has now been released, the Aero Dynamics T-38 Talon Professional, developed in partnership with Infinity Simulations and Delta Simulations.
The team explained that this new aircraft wasn’t a detour but a proving ground, with every tool, workflow, and lesson learned from shipping the T-38 is now accelerating the trijet program. With Navigraph integration, external flight planning, and a broad suite of modern MSFS 2024 features, the T-38 marks a major milestone for the team.
The aircraft features a realistic flight model with supersonic performance, high-detailed visuals, and PBR texturing, a custom avionics suite with a glass cockpit, an immersive soundset, full system functionality and simulation, navigation and training modes, an EFB, 10+ liveries, custom ground crew, custom effects, multiple configurations, and more.
