A2A Simulations has revealed the next aircraft to join the popular Accu-Sim lineup of general aviation aircraft: the Legacy RG-550. Scheduled for release in Q2 2026, the Accu-Sim Legacy RG-550 will be the first high-performance experimental kit-built aircraft created by the developer for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). According to the announcement, the choice of the aircraft represents a deeply personal decision by A2A Simulations, and they expect it to fit perfectly into their Accu-Sim lineup. “As a kit-built aircraft, no two examples are truly identical. Each carries the character and craftsmanship of its builder. That individuality makes it a perfect match for Accu-Sim’s philosophy of ownership and persistence.”
The announcement states that the Accu-Sim Legacy RG-550 is based on a real aircraft previously owned and flown by A2A Simulations’ founder, Scott Gentile. The Lancair Legacy RG-550 is a two-seat, high-performance, experimental, amateur-built (E-AB) aircraft designed, according to the manufacturer, “with speed as the primary focus“. Builders often choose engines such as the 300+ HP Continental IO-550 to achieve impressive cruise speeds and a true “sports car” like feeling.
Just two photos were shared in the announcement. In one, we see the process A2A used to capture 3D photogrammetry scanning of the aircraft in question (N500JL). The second image shows an in-game shot of the Legacy RG-550’s cockpit with a King radio stack featuring the KLN-90B GPS. According to A2A Simulations, the Legacy RG-550 will offer multiple avionics configurations, including a custom simulation of the Garmin G5 Electronic Flight Instrument. The announcement did not state, however, whether the aircraft would be offered with native support for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. But, if the A2A’s previously released Accu-Sim Aerostar 600 and Comanche 250 are any indication, it seems likely that we will see compatibility for both versions of the sim.
It’s worth noting that developer FlySimWare is also developing a similar Lancair Legacy, and working with the owners of the Legacy RG-550 known as “Starhawk” (N321TF) to ensure an accurate representation in the sim. However, it’s unknown which developer will release its Legacy RG-550 first. Stay tuned to FSElite as more details become available.
